Kathy O’Rear has been an agent with LAH Real Estate for nearly as long as it’s been in business. She was born and raised in Birmingham, attended school at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and she married her husband George while in school. She was first approached to become a Realtor after graduation when her sons were toddlers.

Her husband’s job took her family to Mobile where she resumed a teaching career. However, “the Real Estate Seed had been planted,” as she described, and when her youngest said all he wanted was for his Mama to pick him up in the carpool line and “take him to the Icee store,” she knew she had to make the switch.

She first joined LAH 25 years ago after returning home to Birmingham, and reconnecting with former owners Jim Lawrence, her old faculty advisor at the University of Alabama, and Keith Arendall, a good family friend. She said they made LAH feel like home, and it still does.

Kathy believes what sets her apart as a Realtor is her years of experience living and working in Birmingham. Having been born and raised in The Magic City, Kathy takes pride in her community and loves to build long-lasting relationships with her clients. She’s even had the privilege of working as a Realtor for several generations of families.

“Two weeks ago, I was at a client’s daughter’s third birthday party, and I visited with her grandmother – a classmate from my Bama days,” she said.

In her spare time, Kathy enjoys walking in her community with friends. She loves to use this time to look at houses and lots. She also loves spending time with her three grandsons at her house, which they call “Camp KaffyPappO.”
