Helen Catherine Smith joined LAH Real Estate for the first time in 1993, right after she got her real estate license. She was working as a mortgage loan officer at NBC Bank in Mountain Brook village, when co-founder Jim Lawrence approached her and asked if she would be interested in joining him at his new real estate company. And so, Helen Catherine became one of LAH’s first agents. She took a step back from real estate to raise her children, but once they were in college in 2016, she rejoined LAH and has been with the company ever since.

Her priority when working with each client is to listen. She learns about them, their likes and dislikes, and what’s important to them when looking for their dream home. Doing so allows her to uniquely tailor her approach with each client. Helen Catherine also says her background in mortgage lending is a useful asset during any real estate transaction.

Helen Catherine aims to always be level-headed and even keeled, as she wants to eliminate the stress from anyone looking to buy or sell a home. She grew up in Birmingham, raised her family here, and knows the area well. She can provide insight into the Birmingham area’s offerings in business, healthcare, music, arts, education, and sports.

She is always looking to learn and grow in her field, constantly studying the market, sales prices, and histories. She is always exchanging ideas with her colleagues and takes advantage of LAH SIR’s extensive continued education courses.

When she’s not working, Helen Catherine enjoys spending time with her family in Birmingham and at Lake Martin. She loves to water ski and teaches children how to ski and wakeboard. She volunteers at Children’s Harbor at Lake Martin taking children and families on boat rides. She loves travelling, especially to new places. Helen Catherine is a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and is a board member of the YMCA of Greater Birmingham.

She has been married to Clinton for 33 years, and they have three children, Catherine (Harris), Anderson, and Marshall.
